High-level bilateral talks in Abu Dhabi focus on cross-border enforcement, mutual legal assistance, and countering evolving transnational crime
ABU DHABI — UAE Attorney General Dr. Hamad Saif Al Shamsi held separate bilateral discussions with his counterparts from Switzerland and Kazakhstan to deepen judicial cooperation and tackle complex transnational crimes.
The meetings took place on the sidelines of the 15th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, convened in the UAE capital.
Dr. Al Shamsi met first with Swiss Attorney General Stefan Blättler to evaluate joint legal frameworks and professional knowledge exchange. Their discussions focused on building shared strategies against evolving criminal patterns, with particular attention to sophisticated financial wrongdoing, organized crime networks, and cyber-enabled offenses that cross international borders.
In a separate session, Dr. Al Shamsi conferred with Zhumagali Askhat Zhumagaliuly, Deputy Prosecutor General of Kazakhstan. The two officials reviewed mechanisms to streamline direct coordination between their public prosecution offices. Key topics included formal mutual legal assistance requests, accelerating bilateral case referrals, and establishing direct institutional communication channels for cross-border criminal proceedings.
Both sessions highlighted the growing reliance on bilateral prosecutorial pacts as criminal organizations increasingly exploit gaps between legal systems. The talks underscored the UAE’s sustained diplomatic drive to establish durable legal bridges with European and Central Asian jurisdictions, reinforcing international judicial standards and joint case management.
