Authorities at the Permanent Committee of Labour Affairs and GDRFA Dubai recognized Muhammad Parvez after a video of his quick civic action went viral across the UAE.
DUBAI —A delivery rider from India has won praise and official recognition from Dubai authorities after pausing his route to repair a broken irrigation pipe that was flooding a busy road.
Muhammad Parvez was carrying a customer’s package when he spotted water gushing across traffic lanes from a burst roadside line used for landscaping. Seeing drivers slow down abruptly to dodge the surge, Parvez pulled his motorbike over to investigate.
Fixing municipal lines fell outside his job description, and his delivery run had a strict clock. Yet the pooled water risked causing skids and disrupting local traffic.
Parvez tackled the leak with his bare hands. His initial attempts failed as the water pressure pushed through, but he stayed on the roadside until he managed to secure the cracked section and stop the spill.
“I didn’t want to leave it like that,” Parvez said later. “I decided the water had to be stopped before it caused an accident.”
The effort was captured on phone by Emirati content creator Hamad, who uploaded the footage online. Within hours, the clip spread across local social channels, drawing comments praising the rider’s initiative and sense of civic responsibility.
Dubai officials stepped in shortly after. The Permanent Committee of Labour Affairs (PCLA) invited Parvez to its Jebel Ali headquarters. Abdullah Lashkari, representing the committee, presented him with an official certificate of appreciation along with a commemorative gift.
The General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai (GDRFA Dubai) commended Parvez, noting that individual civic responsibility—no matter how small the act—plays a vital role in keeping public spaces safe. GDRFA Dubai Director General Lt. Gen. Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri is also scheduled to host the rider at his office to personally commend him.
“I never expected this kind of response,” Parvez said after the ceremony. “To receive so much warmth from the people and officials here means everything. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. I love you, Dubai.”
