Indian Embassy assists family of Hyderabad native Mohammed Yousuf Ali as five injured nationals remain in intensive care
RIYADH, Oct. 12, 2026 : The funeral of Mohammed Yousuf Ali, an Indian software professional killed in a missile strike on King Khalid International Airport, will take place in Riyadh, diplomatic officials confirmed on Monday.
The Indian Embassy in Riyadh announced it is coordinating closely with Saudi authorities and Ali’s family to complete the necessary documentation and procedural formalities ahead of the burial in the Saudi capital.
Ali, a 46-year-old IT engineer hailing from Mehdipatnam in Hyderabad, succumbed to severe shrapnel wounds following the October 10 projectile attack on the terminal building. A decade-long resident of Riyadh, he had arranged for his family to arrive in Saudi Arabia roughly ten days prior to undertake an Umrah pilgrimage. The family was seated in a transit lounge awaiting a domestic departure to Medina when falling projectile debris tore through the terminal area.
The strike inflicted heavy casualties across the transit hub, claiming at least 13 lives and leaving over 300 injured. Among those struck were members of Ali’s immediate family. His two teenage sons, Aman Ali, 18, and Wasi Ali, 16, sustained severe injuries. Aman underwent corrective knee surgery, while Wasi had three toes amputated due to extensive trauma. Ali’s wife, Sameera, and their 11-year-old daughter, Maryam, received medical treatment for minor injuries.
Providing a status report on casualties within the expatriate community, the Indian mission stated that five Indian nationals remain in intensive care units across local hospitals, three of whom have been under critical care since admission and two who were transferred to ICUs on Monday. Two others are recovering in regular hospital wards, while remaining outpatient cases have been discharged.
Indian consular officers have conducted bedside visits to monitor the condition of the injured and coordinate with medical staff. In Hyderabad, political leaders and community representatives visited Ali’s ancestral residence to offer condolences to extended family members.
The incident follows heightened cross-border aerial strikes targeting civilian aviation infrastructure, which prompted civil aviation authorities to extend flight suspensions across Riyadh’s main international gateway while damage assessments and air defense reviews continue.
