DUBAI – April 5, 2026: In a major move to bolster the emirate’s logistics infrastructure and enhance road safety, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded a contract for the development of three massive, integrated truck rest areas.

Developed in partnership with the private sector, the facilities will cover a combined area of over 210,000 square metres, providing specialized parking and services for 490 trucks and heavy vehicles.

Strategic Locations & Economic Impact

The new rest areas are strategically positioned along Dubai’s busiest freight corridors to serve the 500,000 daily truck trips recorded across the city. The selected sites include:

  • Jebel Ali 3: The largest facility (100,000 m²) with a capacity for 250 trucks.
  • Saih Shuaib: Located near the entrance of Dubai Industrial City (51,000 m²).
  • Madinat Hind 2: Situated along Emirates Road, near Al Tayy Racetrack (59,000 m²).

His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, emphasized that the project is a cornerstone of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33.

“With 85,000 trucks registered in Dubai and internal movement accounting for 83% of total traffic, these areas are essential to reduce random stopping, improve traffic flow, and ensure the sustainability of supply chains,” Al Tayer stated.

World-Class Facilities for Drivers

Moving beyond simple parking lots, these sites are designed as integrated service complexes focused on the well-being of drivers. Depending on the location, facilities will include:

  • Technical Centers: Heavy vehicle testing and driver training centers focused on safety.
  • Maintenance: Light and periodic maintenance facilities.
  • Lifestyle & Welfare: Staff accommodation, recreational lounges, and retail outlets.
  • Sustainability: Electric vehicle (EV) charging points and logistics warehouses.

Future-Proofing Dubai’s Roads

The RTA is currently conducting a comprehensive study of truck movements in Dubai, including predictive modeling for future traffic. This includes evaluating the need for “dry ports” and freight consolidation centers to streamline the movement of goods.

These three new mega-stations add to the 14 existing rest areas developed in collaboration with ADNOC, further cementing Dubai’s reputation as a global leader in advanced, innovation-led infrastructure.
