Dubai witnessed strong participation in the seventh edition of the ‘Workforce Run’, an initiative aimed at promoting workers’ health, physical fitness, and social wellbeing. The event was jointly organised by GDRFA Dubai (General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs – Dubai) in collaboration with the Dubai Sports Council, and took place on Sunday morning at Quranic Park.
More than 1,000 workers and employees from companies across various sectors in Dubai participated in the run, which began at 7:30 am. The initiative forms part of a broader community sports programme designed to encourage healthy lifestyles, promote physical activity, and recognise the vital role workers play in Dubai’s development journey.
Several senior officials attended the event, including Lieutenant General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, Director General of GDRFA Dubai; Colonel Omar Matar Al Mezaina, Assistant Director General of the Labour Relations Regulation Sector; and Colonel Ahmed Al Hashemi, Deputy Assistant Director General, among others.
Speaking on the occasion, Lieutenant General Mohammed Al Marri said the event reflects GDRFA Dubai’s commitment to supporting community initiatives that enhance quality of life and strengthen a human-centric approach to development. He noted that such activities also foster mutual respect, recognition, and stronger engagement between institutions and different segments of society.
Major General Obaid Muhair bin Suroor, Deputy Director General and Chairman of the Labour Committee, highlighted GDRFA Dubai’s strong sense of social responsibility towards safeguarding the physical and mental wellbeing of workers. He added that sports activities play an important role in promoting positive thinking, unity, and social cohesion, helping build a more harmonious and sustainable society.
Colonel Omar Matar Al Mezaina emphasised that initiatives like the Workforce Run strengthen human connections with workers and demonstrate GDRFA Dubai’s commitment to health- and wellbeing-focused programmes. He noted that sports serve as an effective tool in creating balanced workplaces based on empathy, care, and mutual understanding.
GDRFA Dubai reiterated that investing in people’s health through sports and community initiatives is essential for societal sustainability and aligns with its institutional vision of improving overall quality of life.
