The UAE successfully thwarted a major aerial assault on Friday after its air defence systems destroyed nine ballistic missiles and intercepted 109 drones, the Ministry of Defence announced.
According to officials, the missiles were detected on March 6, 2026, and neutralised before reaching their targets. Defence systems also tracked 112 drones approaching the country, intercepting the majority while three drones fell within UAE territory.
Authorities said the figures reflect the ongoing escalation of aerial attacks linked to Iran. Since the start of these attacks, the UAE has detected 205 ballistic missiles, intercepting 190, while 13 landed in the sea and two within the country.
The Ministry further revealed that 1,184 Iranian drones have been detected, with 1,110 intercepted. Another 74 drones landed within the UAE’s territory, though most were neutralised before causing major damage. Defence forces also intercepted and destroyed eight cruise missiles.
Despite the successful interceptions, the attacks resulted in three fatalities and 112 minor injuries. Victims included individuals from several countries including Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, India, Egypt, Ethiopia, the Philippines and Sri Lanka, among others.
Officials emphasised that the UAE’s armed forces remain on high alert, reaffirming their commitment to protecting the nation’s sovereignty, security and critical infrastructure amid rising regional tensions.
