Kannur | March 19, 2026: Senior Congress leader K. Sudhakaran has expressed strong dissatisfaction after being excluded from the party’s candidate list for the upcoming Kerala Assembly elections. Reports suggest that his move to consider contesting as an independent has prompted the party high command to take a tougher stance.
Sudhakaran reportedly termed the decision as a “betrayal and insult” and is even considering resigning from the Congress Working Committee.
The Congress leadership has maintained that sitting MPs should not contest Assembly elections, a key reason behind denying him a ticket, as the party wants to retain its strength in Parliament.
Despite strong indications that Sudhakaran could be fielded from Kannur, the leadership stood firm on its decision. Former mayor T.O. Mohanan is likely to be the party’s candidate from the constituency.
Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition V.D. Satheesan stated that the candidate selection process within the party was completed smoothly without major disagreements.
Political observers say Sudhakaran’s next move could intensify internal tensions within the Congress ahead of the elections.
