Sharjah: The Indian Association Sharjah (IAS) has submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister of India, urging immediate intervention to address the travel difficulties faced by Indian expatriates in the UAE.
The memorandum highlights that thousands of Indian expats are struggling due to disruptions in regular flight services between the UAE and India, along with sharply increased airfares. Many expatriates are forced to travel under emergency circumstances but face limited flight availability and high ticket costs.
According to IAS, several Indian airlines, including Air India and IndiGo, have reduced or suspended services on key routes, worsening the situation. In contrast, foreign airlines continue to operate within permissible limits, creating a supply-demand imbalance and driving ticket prices higher.
To address the crisis, IAS has put forward three key demands to the Indian government:
- Resume or increase flight operations by Indian carriers from the UAE
- Introduce emergency travel mechanisms such as special flights
- Regulate airfare pricing to prevent exploitation during high demand
The association also noted that many Indian nationals are stranded abroad under distressing conditions and emphasized that timely government intervention would provide significant relief to the expatriate community.
The memorandum was signed by IAS President Nissar Thalangara and submitted on March 23, 2026.
