Inclusive initiative at Al Satwa and Oud Maitha stations enhances mobility experience for People of Determination
Dubai :
In a significant step towards inclusive public transport, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has introduced dedicated sensory rooms at Al Satwa and Oud Maitha bus stations. The initiative is designed to improve the travel experience for People of Determination, particularly children with autism, by offering a calm and supportive environment within busy transit hubs.

The newly launched project aligns with RTA’s broader strategy to enhance customer happiness and deliver specialised services catering to diverse community needs. By integrating innovative solutions within its infrastructure, RTA aims to create a more inclusive and accessible transport system across the emirate.
These sensory rooms are carefully designed spaces that balance relaxation and stimulation, addressing the specific sensory needs of children with autism. Equipped with smart low-level lighting, the rooms create a soothing atmosphere that helps reduce anxiety. Interactive features such as swings provide physical comfort, while audio-visual elements—including calming music, natural imagery, and colourful projections—contribute to minimising sensory overload.
Officials noted that the initiative reflects Dubai’s leadership vision of delivering high-quality services that prioritise the well-being of People of Determination and their families. By optimising existing facilities and transforming them into value-added service areas, RTA continues to reinforce its commitment to social responsibility and innovation.
The project has also earned formal recognition, with RTA receiving the Autism-Friendly Environment Certificate from the Dubai Autism Center. This certification underscores the authority’s adherence to international standards in creating supportive environments for individuals with autism.
