Traffic flow improves by up to 40% as infrastructure upgrades target growing urban demand

Dubai: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has successfully completed a major road connectivity project spanning 13 kilometres across 18 residential areas in the emirate, reinforcing its ongoing commitment to urban infrastructure development and mobility efficiency.

The project, implemented as part of RTA’s broader strategy to accommodate Dubai’s rapid urban expansion, included the construction of new road links, traffic improvements, roadside parking facilities, pavements, and upgraded street lighting systems.

Enhancing Connectivity and Reducing Travel Time

According to Hamad Al Shehhi, Director of Roads at the Traffic and Roads Agency, the newly completed road connections have significantly improved access to residential communities by paving previously unpaved roads.

“This initiative has enhanced traffic flow and reduced journey times by up to 40% in several locations, offering motorists a smoother and safer driving experience,” Al Shehhi said. He added that the project aligns with RTA’s long-term vision of becoming “The World Leader in Seamless and Sustainable Mobility.”

The development was executed in phases, covering key residential areas including Al Khawaneej 1, Al Barsha South 1, Nad Shamma, Jumeirah 1, Za’abeel 1, Al Rashidiya, Muhaisnah 1, Al Barsha 1, Al Hudaiba, Al Quoz (1 and 3), Al Satwa, Al Twar 1, Mirdif, Umm Ramool, Umm Suqeim 1, and Al Mizhar (1 and 2).

Strategic Infrastructure for a Growing City

The project forms part of RTA’s continuous efforts to respond to increasing population density and urbanisation in Dubai. By expanding and upgrading road networks, the authority aims to improve operational efficiency, increase vehicular capacity, and ensure smoother traffic movement across the emirate.

The inclusion of pedestrian-friendly pavements and enhanced lighting also reflects a broader focus on safety and quality of life for residents.
