Dubai has recorded a significant improvement in road safety, with truck-related traffic incidents dropping by 20 percent in 2025. The Roads and Transport Authority announced the milestone, attributing it to a series of targeted initiatives aimed at strengthening safety standards across the emirate’s logistics and freight transport sector.
According to the authority, the results reflect a coordinated strategy combining infrastructure upgrades, stricter enforcement, and behavioural awareness programmes. The logistics transport sector, a key pillar of Dubai’s economy, has been a central focus of these efforts due to its role in maintaining supply chain efficiency and supporting economic growth.
As part of its safety drive, the Roads and Transport Authority introduced rear safety barriers on trucks to reduce the severity of collisions, alongside specialised training programmes designed to improve driver skills and compliance with operational standards. Authorities also enhanced rapid response mechanisms to ensure the swift removal of broken-down trucks from major roads, helping to prevent disruptions and secondary accidents.

In parallel, more than 30 awareness campaigns were conducted in 2025 targeting freight companies and truck drivers. These campaigns addressed high-risk behaviours such as sudden lane changes, failure to maintain safe distances, not yielding to other vehicles, and reversing without adequate caution. The outreach was delivered through multilingual materials and a mix of traditional and digital media to ensure broad engagement across the sector’s diverse workforce.
Infrastructure improvements also played a critical role. The authority established 14 truck rest areas across six strategic locations, including key roads and logistics hubs. This measure helped redistribute truck traffic more effectively and contributed to a 70 percent reduction in permits issued for truck movement during restricted hours compared to the previous year, indicating higher compliance with regulatory measures.
Enforcement efforts were intensified through inspection campaigns targeting illegal truck parking on main roads and under bridges. Additionally, technical inspections increased by 8 percent, with joint night patrols focusing on vehicle safety components such as trailers, tyres, and lighting systems.
Officials say the combined impact of these initiatives has not only reduced accident rates but also improved overall traffic flow and reinforced a culture of safety within the logistics sector. The Roads and Transport Authority noted that it will continue to expand its safety and regulatory programmes as Dubai advances its position as a leading global logistics hub.
