Protecting digital identity is no longer a “technical luxury” but a strategic necessity, warns the council as AI-driven threats escalate.
ABU DHABI – The UAE Cyber Security Council has issued a high-level advisory emphasizing the critical need to safeguard digital identities following a staggering 32% increase in cyberattacks during the first half of 2026. In a statement to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), the Council highlighted that the rapid proliferation of Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and cloud computing has transformed digital identity into a primary target for global threat actors.
As the UAE continues its trajectory toward a fully integrated digital economy, the Council described digital identity—comprising personal data, financial records, and health information—as one of the most valuable assets for both individuals and institutions. The surge in attacks is largely attributed to cybercriminals exploiting vulnerabilities to facilitate impersonation, financial fraud, and the illicit sale of data on the black market.
The Rise of AI-Driven Exploitation
The Council noted that the integration of AI tools has lowered the barrier for attackers, allowing for more sophisticated and automated identity-theft campaigns. Protecting one’s digital presence is now framed as a fundamental requirement for the continuity of digital services and the prevention of significant financial and reputational damage.
“Breaches extend far beyond simple data loss,” the Council warned. “Identity theft can lead to devastating financial consequences and long-term negative impacts on personal and professional reputations.”
Multi-Factor Authentication: The 99% Shield
Despite the complexity of modern threats, the Council pointed toward a highly effective solution. Data indicates that Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is capable of preventing more than 99% of identity-related attacks. The Council urged all users to adopt MFA as a non-negotiable standard for all digital accounts.

To fortify the “first line of defense,” the Council outlined several essential security protocols:
- Enable MFA: Utilize biometrics or one-time codes in addition to passwords.
- Password Hygiene: Avoid reusing passwords across platforms and eliminate weak, easily guessable credentials.
- Information Privacy: Exercise extreme caution when sharing sensitive personal data online.
- Behavioral Awareness: Remain vigilant against phishing attempts that leverage AI to mimic legitimate communications.

The UAE Cyber Security Council concluded that the battle for digital safety is as much about human behavior as it is about technical infrastructure. While the UAE remains a leader in adopting cutting-edge security technologies, the Council stressed that an informed and aware citizenry is the most vital component of a secure digital ecosystem.
