Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid reviews strategic beachfront project spanning 4 million square feet, set to accommodate 7 million visitors annually.
DUBAI: As part of a massive Dh3 billion investment to revolutionize the emirate’s coastline, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, toured the Al Mamzar Beaches development project. The Dh500 million flagship initiative is nearing completion and is poised to become a premier global destination for families and tourists.
The project is a cornerstone of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, aiming to increase beach capacity across the emirate by an impressive 170%. During the tour, Sheikh Mohammed emphasized that the pace of development in Dubai will only accelerate, ensuring the city remains the world’s best place to live and visit.
Privacy and Innovation: A World First
The Al Mamzar development introduces several pioneering features, most notably the world’s first 24/7 women-only beach that offers dedicated night swimming. This facility is designed to provide complete privacy, catering specifically to women seeking secure and comfortable coastal leisure.
The project is divided into two major zones:
- Al Mamzar Lagoon Beach: Spanning 2.75 million square feet, featuring children’s play areas, floating walkways, and water sports zones.
- Al Mamzar Corniche: Covering 1.25 million square feet, focusing on premium experiences, art walkways, and dedicated sports facilities.
Smart Infrastructure and Sustainability
Dubai Municipality is integrating cutting-edge technology into the beach’s fabric. The project utilizes Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) to enhance public safety through smart rescue systems and faster emergency response times.
From an environmental standpoint, the development has utilized 350,000 cubic meters of sand for land reclamation. This was done following specialized studies to ensure coastal resilience against climate change and to provide a safe, sustainable environment for beachgoers.
Enhancing Quality of Life
“Our projects are moving ahead, and work will not stop; on the contrary, the pace will accelerate,” stated Sheikh Mohammed. The development includes over 5.5 kilometers of dedicated tracks for walking, running, and cycling, linking the lagoon to Al Mamzar Beach Park.
With 35 different service and leisure facilities—all designed to be fully accessible for People of Determination—the project is expected to boost service capacity by 500% and create over 65 new investment opportunities for the private sector in retail and dining.
The Road to 2030
The Al Mamzar project is part of a broader beachfront portfolio that includes developments at Jumeirah 1, 2, and 3, Umm Suqeim, and Jebel Ali Beach. By 2030, Dubai aims to have an seamlessly integrated network of green and blue spaces, reinforcing its status as a leading global hub for beach tourism.
