Dubai Police urge strict compliance with occupational safety protocols following a fatal incident in the industrial area.
DUBAI — A recovery vehicle driver was killed on Thursday after a vehicle suddenly shifted and fell on him during an unloading operation in the Al Qusais Industrial Area. The operator died at the scene from severe injuries sustained during the impact, prompting Dubai Police to issue an urgent safety directive to all transport and towing firms across the emirate.
Traffic patrols, rescue teams, and accident investigators were dispatched immediately to the site to clear the area, secure evidence, and manage the localized traffic flow to allow emergency vehicles unimpeded access.
Negligence and Safety Lapses Blamed
According to Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, initial forensic and on-site investigations pointed directly to a failure to adhere to mandatory occupational safety requirements.
The preliminary police report indicated that the tragedy occurred due to a critical misjudgment during the operation of the truck’s hydraulic crane mechanism, compounded by an improperly secured vehicle carrier system.
“The vehicle fell suddenly during the unloading process due to negligence and a clear failure to take the necessary occupational safety measures, causing it to land directly on the driver who was operating the unit,” Brigadier Bin Suwaidan confirmed.
Push for Advanced Tech Monitoring
Following the incident, Dubai authorities have renewed their advisory calling for absolute compliance with safety standards whenever workers are handling heavy equipment, loading commercial vehicles, or executing roadside recoveries.
The General Department of Traffic highlighted that negligence during such technical procedures poses immense risks both on public highways and inside active work sites. To curb recurring occupational hazards involving heavy transports, Dubai Police are stepping up field awareness programs and expanding their deployment of advanced smart systems and modern technologies designed to actively monitor and flag dangerous driver behaviors in real time.
