A police investigation was conducted and within three hours, the money was handed over to its owner.
An Indian expatriate has been honoured by Dubai Police after returning Dh100,000 that he found in a parking lot, demonstrating an act of honesty that helped reunite the money with its owner.
The incident involved Mohammed Ali Sherakal Mohi, who discovered a bundle of cash containing Dh100,000 while at a parking area in Dubai. After finding the money, he photographed the cash and the location where it was discovered before heading directly to Al Raffa Police Station to hand it over to authorities.
Investigations later revealed that the money belonged to a man who had accidentally dropped the bundle while leaving the parking area. According to police, the owner had failed to properly secure an envelope containing cash, causing one bundle worth Dh100,000 to fall out without his knowledge before he drove away.
Within three hours of receiving the cash, Dubai Police successfully identified and contacted the owner, who was unaware that he had lost the money. The owner later visited the police station to collect the amount and expressed his gratitude to both Dubai Police and Mohi for the honest gesture.
In recognition of his integrity, officers at Al Raffa Police Station honoured Mohi during a special ceremony.
Colonel Ahmed Obaid bin Hudaiba praised the expatriate’s actions and highlighted Dubai Police’s commitment to recognising community members who demonstrate honesty by reporting and returning lost property.
He noted that such acts contribute to strengthening the values of trust, safety, and social responsibility within UAE society.
Mohi was also received by Colonel Saleh Hassan Al Marzouqi and Captain Ali Haji Al Balushi, who joined in honouring him for his exemplary conduct.
Dubai Police said the incident reflects the strong culture of integrity and public cooperation that continues to support community safety and security across the emirate.
