Integrated Transport Centre confirms exemptions for public parking and Darb toll gates, with exceptions for multi-story parking facilities.
ABU DHABI: In observance of the Hijri New Year, the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) of the Department of Municipalities and Transport in Abu Dhabi has announced that public parking and the Darb toll gate system will be free of charge on Monday. The initiative aims to provide ease of movement for residents and visitors celebrating the Islamic New Year holiday.
According to the official notification, the holiday exemption will apply to all standard surface public parking spaces across the capital city from Monday morning until the regular fee structure resumes on Tuesday.
Additionally, motorists will be exempt from the Darb toll gate charges during the holiday period. The toll system, which typically charges drivers during peak traffic hours, will remain inactive throughout Monday, allowing for smoother and more cost-effective travel across Abu Dhabi’s major bridges.
However, the transport authority clarified that specific regulations remain in place for multi-story parking structures. Drivers utilizing these covered, multi-level facilities will still be required to pay the standard applicable fees during the holiday duration.
The Hijri New Year, marking the beginning of the Islamic calendar year, is observed as an official paid holiday for both public and private sector employees in the United Arab Emirates. Local authorities routinely implement parking and toll exemptions during such national occasions to facilitate family gatherings and leisure travel.
The ITC has urged all motorists to park their vehicles legally in designated spaces and avoid blocking traffic, reminding the public that residential parking rules and regulations against illegal parking will continue to be strictly enforced during the holiday.
