Thwaka Ahmed Maulavi Al-Azhari served with distinction as a central Mushawara (executive council) member of the Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama, the president of its Kasaragod district chapter, and as the Joint Qazi of Mangaluru and Keezhur. His extensive work across these prestigious positions consistently served as an inspiration for the religious, educational, and social sectors.
In a joint statement, Dubai KMCC Kasaragod District President Salam Kanyappadi, General Secretary Hanief T.R., and Treasurer Dr. Ismail highlighted the scholar’s unwavering sincerity and dedication. They observed that his unique leadership style and profound wisdom successfully guided multiple generations of community members and scholars alike.
The committee officials further remarked that the late scholar beautifully synthesized the gravitas of deep academic knowledge with the tranquility of spiritual life. He was widely recognized as an epitome of humanitarian values, frequently intervening with immense care and empathy to address and resolve the issues faced by ordinary citizens.

The Legacy of Samastha and the Qazi System: The Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama, established in 1926, stands as the principal religious organization of Sunni scholars in Kerala, driving a vast network of madrasas, colleges, and social institutions. The position of a ‘Qazi’ carries immense judicial and spiritual responsibility within the traditional framework of Malabar and coastal Karnataka, acting as the chief arbitrator on religious matters, family laws, and community harmony for millions of believers across combined sectors like Mangaluru and Keezhur.
