Accompanied by his family, the Malayalam cinema legend visited the Prime Minister’s official residence following the prestigious civil investiture ceremony.
DUBAI: Malayalam cinema icon Mammootty on Wednesday met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his official residence in New Delhi. The meeting took place shortly after the veteran actor was conferred with the prestigious Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian award, for his exceptional contributions to Indian cinema. Accompanied by his immediate family members, the megastar spent quality time discussing cultural initiatives with the Prime Minister.



Following the high-profile interaction, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to his official social media handles to share glimpses of the meeting. The pictures feature Mammootty alongside his wife Sulfath, his son and popular actor Dulquer Salmaan, and other close family members, all sharing light-hearted moments with the PM.
“Delighted to meet the legendary Mammootty Ji and his family after he was conferred the Padma Bhushan. We had a wonderful conversation on cinema, art, and the rich cultural landscape of Kerala,” the Prime Minister noted in his post, praising the actor’s multi-decade-long career and lasting impact on Indian entertainment.
Mammootty, dressed in traditional attire, expressed his profound gratitude to the government and the people of India for the honor. The actor, whose career spans over five decades and 400 films, remains one of the most celebrated and influential figures in Indian regional and national cinema.
The Padma Bhushan recognition adds another glorious feather to Mammootty’s illustrious cap, which already includes multiple National Film Awards and the Padma Shri, awarded to him in 1998. The 2026 civilian honors celebrate his relentless dedication to character-driven cinema and his pioneering role in elevating Malayalam cinema to a global audience.
