Dubai: The UAE will implement its annual midday work ban starting June 15, prohibiting outdoor work under direct sunlight from 12:30 PM to 3:00 PM daily, continuing through September 15. Now in its 21st year, the initiative aims to protect workers from extreme summer heat.Announced by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (Mohre), the policy applies across both public and private sectors. Companies are required to provide shaded areas, fans or other cooling equipment, sufficient drinking water, and electrolyte supplements at worksites. Employers must also ensure first-aid supplies are readily available.
Companies violating the ban will face a Dh5,000 fine per worker, up to a maximum of Dh50,000 for multiple violations. Mohre will monitor compliance through inspections and digital systems. While most outdoor activities are restricted, exemptions apply to tasks that are technically time-sensitive, such as laying asphalt or concrete, or emergency work affecting public services like electricity, water, or traffic. Activities requiring a special permit from competent authorities may also be exempted.

The ministry encourages the public to report violations via its call centre (600590000), website, or smart app. Awareness campaigns and field visits will be intensified during the three-month period to ensure adherence.Over the years, the initiative has proven highly effective, with a compliance rate exceeding 99% in recent years, highlighting the UAE’s continued commitment to safeguarding worker welfare during the harsh summer months.
