ABU DHABI: Following meteorological warnings over the approach of Super Typhoon Bavi towards Taiwan and East Asia, Etihad Airways has implemented major schedule adjustments for its flights on the Abu Dhabi–Taipei route to ensure passenger and crew safety.
The severe weather system, packed with winds approaching 200 km/h, has caused widespread disruption in regional air corridors, forcing multiple international carriers to alter operations.
According to the revised flight operational updates released by Etihad:
- Flight EY899 (Taipei to Abu Dhabi – July 10): The departure was advanced to an earlier time slot to beat the onset of the storm. It departed Taipei at 15:40 local time and is scheduled to land in Abu Dhabi at 20:55 local time.
- Flight EY898 (Abu Dhabi to Taipei – July 10): This flight has been delayed due to deteriorating weather conditions over Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport.
- Flight EY899 (Taipei to Abu Dhabi – July 11): The return leg on Saturday is also expected to operate behind schedule as a knock-on effect of the previous flight’s delay.
Etihad Airways stated that they are closely monitoring the progression of the storm and warned that further operational changes could take place. Passengers traveling on these routes have been advised to keep their contact details updated on the official website to receive real-time alerts via SMS and email.
Other major global carriers, including Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, and domestic Taiwanese airlines, have also canceled or rescheduled over 400 flights combined due to the incoming super typhoon.
