Precautionary mass relocations are underway in Zhejiang and Fujian provinces ahead of the storm’s expected Sunday morning landfall.
WENZHOU, China — July 11, 2026 (WAM) — Chinese authorities have evacuated more than 600,000 residents from the eastern provinces of Zhejiang and Fujian as Typhoon Bavi barrels toward the country’s coast. The storm is projected to make landfall near the coastal city of Wenzhou early Sunday morning.
According to reports from state media, the large-scale precautionary relocations include moving more than 500,000 people to safety within Zhejiang Province and over 100,000 residents in neighboring Fujian Province. The mass evacuations are part of rigorous emergency preparedness measures implemented by local governments to mitigate the impact of the incoming weather system.
Meteorological tracking indicates that although Typhoon Bavi is gradually losing its structural intensity and weakening, it still poses a significant hazard. Disastrous conditions are anticipated due to the severe, torrential rainfall accompanying the system, which raises the risk of flash flooding and landslides in low-lying coastal zones. Emergency response teams remain on high alert along the eastern seaboard to manage the impact of the storm’s arrival.
