The long-awaited Emirates Road reopening is set for Monday, August 25, restoring uninterrupted traffic flow along the vital 14-km stretch connecting Sharjah, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi — just in time for the back-to-school season.
Major Upgrade Completed
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) confirmed that the rehabilitation project, which lasted nearly three months, has been successfully completed. Both fast and slow lanes in both directions were repaired to meet the highest safety and quality standards.
Smart Technology for Safer Roads
To ensure long-term durability, RTA used advanced inspection technologies, including laser detection and smoothness-scanning vehicles, to assess structural wear. The Pavement Quality Index (PQI), which had dropped to 85 percent, has now been restored above the desired 90 percent benchmark.
Phased Work with Minimal Disruption
Repairs were carried out in carefully planned phases, covering 400–500 meters at a time, with major work scheduled on weekends to minimise disruption for commuters. Despite temporary slowdowns in recent weeks, RTA says the stretch is now ready to handle peak traffic with ease.
Benefits for Daily Commuters
The upgrade is expected to deliver smoother and more efficient drives, enhanced road safety, reduced vehicle wear, and even lower fuel consumption. Most importantly, the reopening will ease congestion and cut delays for thousands of motorists during the busy back-to-school period.
