Kochi: A massive fire broke out in the early hours of the morning on Broadway in Kochi, gutting around 12 shops, mostly fancy and toy stores, located near Sridhar Theatre (Sridar Cinema).
The blaze reportedly started around 1 a.m. in a commercial building, triggering panic in the busy market area. Eight fire brigade units rushed to the spot and battled the flames alongside local volunteers. It took nearly 90 minutes of continuous effort to bring the fire under control and prevent it from spreading to nearby structures.
No casualties have been reported so far, but the fire caused extensive property damage. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, and authorities have launched an investigation.
Broadway, one of Kochi’s busiest commercial hubs, remained partially disrupted following the incident as cooling operations continued.
