Former South Africa captain shares a heartwarming tribute to his longtime Royal Challengers Bengaluru teammate, celebrating their enduring friendship on and off the pitch.
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — South African cricket legend AB de Villiers shared a warm birthday tribute to former teammate Virat Kohli on Thursday as the Indian batting star turned 38, highlighting an enduring bond forged over a decade at Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
De Villiers posted a heartfelt message on social media platform X, recalling their shared history and celebrating the milestones of their professional partnership.
“Happy birthday, my Biscotti!”, de Villiers wrote on X. “So many memories, battles, and special moments together. Wishing you another great year ahead. Keep doing what you do best!”
The moniker carries mutual history between the two cricketers. Kohli previously revealed that he adopted the South African slang terms “biscotti” and “biscuit”—used as an affectionate term for someone close—during their years sharing the RCB dressing room. Kohli had similarly addressed the former South African captain as “Biscotti” in a birthday message to de Villiers in 2022.
The pair played together for RCB between 2011 and 2021, anchoring the franchise’s batting lineup and constructing numerous historic partnerships. De Villiers retired from all formats of cricket in 2021, while maintaining a close personal rapport and public connection with Kohli and the Bengaluru franchise.
