Abu Dhabi will restrict delivery motorcycles from using selected high-speed roads from May 15 as part of measures to improve road safety and traffic flow, authorities said.

The Integrated Transport Centre (AD Mobility) announced that the ban will apply to roads with speed limits of 120kph or above, as well as a stretch of Sheikh Zayed Road between Sheikh Zayed Bridge and Sheikh Zayed Tunnel.

Officials said the step is intended to reduce risks for riders and other motorists on major routes with faster-moving traffic.

The move comes amid data highlighting ongoing road safety concerns across the UAE. Figures from the Ministry of Interior show 6,014 traffic accidents were recorded nationwide in 2025.

Sudden swerving was identified as the leading cause, accounting for 905 incidents, or nearly one in six crashes. Authorities said such behavior is often linked to missed exits, impatience or inattention.

The latest measure forms part of wider efforts to address accident causes and improve safety standards on key roads.
