Traffic patrols and community volunteers step up presence around school zones to safeguard pupils across Abu Dhabi and Al Dhafra
ABU DHABI — September 1, 2026 : Abu Dhabi Police officers and community volunteers greeted thousands of students returning to classrooms across the emirate on Tuesday, distributing gifts while stepping up patrols to enforce road safety outside school zones.
The back-to-school campaign, organized by the Traffic and Security Patrols Directorate alongside members of the community initiative “We Are All Police,” aims to combine a welcoming atmosphere for children with strict traffic monitoring around educational institutions.
The drive coincides with the start of the 2026–2027 academic year across the United Arab Emirates, where students officially resumed classes on Monday, August 31. Under the academic calendar approved by the UAE Ministry of Education, the current school term will conclude on July 2, 2027.
Brigadier Suhail Sayyah Al Mazrouei, Director of the Traffic and Security Patrols Department in Abu Dhabi, stated that the force prioritized an active field presence from day one. Officers were deployed near campus gates and major intersections to assist parents, direct traffic, and deliver road safety guidance directly to young learners.
The initiative extended across the emirate’s wider regions. In Al Dhafra, Colonel Saif Mohammed Naif Al Ameri, Director of the local Traffic and Security Patrols Department, confirmed that coordinated deployments are actively managing vehicle flow, curbing congestion, and protecting children embarking and disembarking near school gates.
Police urge motorists to exercise caution around school transport routes, obey designated drop-off protocols, and adhere strictly to posted speed limits within school perimeters.
