The Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC) has achieved LEED Platinum certification under the v4.1 Operations and Maintenance (O+M) rating system, the highest level of recognition awarded by the globally recognised Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) programme.

The achievement marks a significant milestone in ADPHC’s sustainability journey and reflects its commitment to integrating environmental responsibility with public health objectives to create healthier, more efficient spaces for employees and visitors.

The certification followed a comprehensive assessment process that included a detailed energy audit to evaluate building performance and identify opportunities for improvement. ADPHC implemented a series of sustainability measures, including upgrades to heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, improvements in lighting efficiency, enhanced waste management practices, and the adoption of certified sustainable products and green cleaning protocols.

The centre also introduced measures to improve indoor air quality and strengthen overall environmental performance.

These initiatives produced measurable results, with energy consumption per employee reduced by 36 percent, water usage cut by 42 percent, and recycling rates reaching 44 percent. The combined achievements enabled ADPHC to secure the prestigious LEED Platinum certification.

Commenting on the accomplishment, Dr. Rashed Alsuwaidi said the certification reflects the organisation’s commitment to protecting both environmental and human health.

“We are proud to have achieved the LEED Platinum certification, the highest level of recognition under the globally recognised programme. This achievement reflects our commitment to protecting both environmental and human health,” he said.

Dr. Alsuwaidi added that environmental sustainability plays a direct role in community wellbeing and supports the UAE’s broader environmental objectives, including national net-zero ambitions and Abu Dhabi’s vision for a sustainable and resilient future.

The centre has continued to advance its sustainability agenda in recent years, including the publication of its first Sustainability Report in 2023, which outlined progress in carbon reduction, waste minimisation, and resource efficiency.

Officials said the certification reinforces ADPHC’s role as a regional leader in sustainable institutional practices and demonstrates how public sector organisations can contribute to environmental stewardship while enhancing operational performance.
