The tech giant’s first book-style folding smartphone arrives in two finishes and four storage tiers reaching Dh13,599, with retail deliveries set for October 23.
DUBAI, Oct 16 : Apple opened pre-orders across the United Arab Emirates on Friday for the iPhone Duo, marking the company’s formal entry into the foldable smartphone segment with a starting price of Dh8,499 for the 256GB base tier.
Pre-orders went live at 4:00 p.m. local time on Apple’s regional digital storefront, kicking off launch-day reservations ahead of general retail availability scheduled for October 23.
The device introduces a dual-screen format that shifts from a handheld 5.4-inch outer display to an unfolding 7.6-inch tablet-sized workspace. Both panels feature Super Retina XDR OLED technology with ProMotion adaptive refresh rates reaching 120Hz, reaching outdoor peak brightness levels of up to 3,000 nits. Apple engineered the internal folding panel with a custom polymer layer and a nano-texture finish aimed at dispersing ambient glare and softening the center crease.
Regional pricing escalates quickly across four storage tiers. The 512GB configuration retails at Dh9,349, while the 1TB edition costs Dh11,049. The range tops out at Dh13,599 for the 2TB version, positioning the iPhone Duo as the most expensive consumer smartphone in Apple’s catalog. Customers opting for optional two-year AppleCare+ protection face a Dh1,349 surcharge, pushing the entry-level outlay to Dh9,848 before sales taxes.
To offset the initial price shock, Apple rolled out trade-in incentives on its UAE storefront. Trade-in discounts credit shoppers between Dh160 and Dh3,260 depending on the model, operational health, and physical state of an eligible smartphone. Regional financial institutions and partner telecom providers have also readied interest-free instalment programs spanning 12 to 24 months to ease capital requirements.
The device runs on the 2-nanometer A20 Pro silicon, utilizing a 6-core processor paired with a 7-core graphics engine and dedicated hardware acceleration for Apple Intelligence routines. A dual-battery architecture sustains up to 44 hours of local video playback when restricted to the outer panel, tapering to 31 hours under continuous utilization of the expansive 7.6-inch interior panel.
Hardware durability centers on an aerospace-grade 5 titanium chassis, a multi-gear hinge comprising over 100 precision components, and an IP68 certification against dust ingress and water immersion. Apple layered Ceramic Shield 2 across the exterior glass to resist drops and abrasions.
Photography duties rely on a dual 48-megapixel Fusion array on the rear casing, combining wide-angle and ultra-wide optics capable of capturing Dolby Vision 4K video at 120 frames per second. A 12-megapixel sensor sits beneath the folding display to preserve an unobstructed inner canvas during FaceTime video calls.
Apple tailored iOS 27 to accommodate the hardware form factor, introducing persistent side-by-side app pairing, drag-and-drop file transfers across panels, and native Apple Pencil support for handwriting and design drafting. In keeping with Apple’s hardware standardization, the handset relies entirely on digital eSIM profiles, removing the physical tray, and shifts biometric authentication to a capacitive Touch ID scanner housed within the side power button.
The UAE ranks in Apple’s top-tier global distribution wave, with retail boutiques in Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates, and Yas Mall receiving initial customer shipments alongside carrier outlets next Friday.
