The tech giant’s first dual-display device promises tablet utility in a pocket form, but extended warranties, chargers, and top-tier storage rapidly escalate ownership costs for consumers.
DUBAI, Oct 24, 2026 :Apple’s first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, has arrived in retail outlets across the United Arab Emirates carrying an entry-level price tag of Dh8,499, setting up a sharp test of local consumer appetite as essential protection plans and charging accessories push initial purchase outlays beyond Dh10,000.
The book-style handset represents Apple’s formal entry into the high-end foldable category dominated in recent years by Asian manufacturers. Built around the company’s new A20 Pro system-on-chip, the device pairs a compact 5.4-inch outer OLED panel for one-handed tasks with an unfolding 7.6-inch inner display capable of running side-by-side applications through iOS 27.
While the hardware delivers the functional footprint of a small tablet inside a pocketable chassis, prospective buyers navigating retail shelves in Dubai and Abu Dhabi face a practical financial reality: the advertised entry price accounts for the hardware alone.
Like other flagship smartphones from the manufacturer, the retail box excludes a power adapter and earphones, bundling only a USB-C cable. Taking full advantage of the device’s battery specifications requires a compatible high-wattage power supply, such as the official 40-watt dynamic charging brick listed at Dh169. Users opting for desktop wireless charging must budget Dh199 for the 2-metre MagSafe pad, which itself demands a dedicated high-output power source.
Physical protection introduces far larger commitments. The complex titanium hinge and folding display assembly create unique structural considerations, driving consumer interest toward official protective gear and warranty coverage.
Apple offers a standard two-piece protective case at Dh319 and a Kickstand Folio designed for hands-free video and document viewing at Dh529. Adding two years of AppleCare+ coverage introduces an upfront cost of Dh1,349. Under the policy, eligible accidental display or rear-glass repairs carry a Dh99 deductible in the UAE, while other damage claims require Dh349.
Without that extended coverage, owners take on considerable financial exposure. Apple has yet to publish out-of-warranty replacement tariffs for the central flexible display panel and mechanical hinge assembly in regional service centers.
These secondary outlays reshape the actual buying price. An entry-level 256GB Duo paired with basic case protection and an AppleCare+ policy rises to Dh10,167 before taxes or carrier plans. Equipping that same configuration with the Kickstand Folio, wired charging brick, and MagSafe accessory takes the checkout total to Dh10,745.
At the upper end of the portfolio, internal storage tiers carry steep premiums. Apple prices the 512GB model at Dh9,349, the 1TB variant at Dh11,049, and the range-topping 2TB configuration at Dh13,599. A fully outfitted 2TB setup with premium accessories and device insurance reaches Dh15,845.
For mobile professionals and frequent flyers who routinely juggle a phone and a compact slate like the iPad mini, the Duo offers the genuine convenience of consolidating two gadgets into one daily carry. Yet for everyday users whose digital routines center on messaging, camera rolls, and social feeds, the multi-thousand-dirham premium largely buys novelty rather than indispensable functionality.
