WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump announced that the United States has agreed to continue negotiations with Iran following a request from Tehran. However, the President reiterated in no uncertain terms that the previous ceasefire agreement between the two nations is officially over.
Taking to his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump stated: “The Islamic Republic of Iran has asked us to continue ‘talks.’ We have agreed to do so, but the United States has stated to them, in no uncertain terms, that the Cease Fire is OVER!”
The collapse of the April interim truce follows a significant escalation in the region, including recent military strikes and tensions surrounding commercial shipping in the vital Strait of Hormuz waterway. While the military truce stands terminated, diplomatic efforts backed by regional mediators like Qatar are reportedly still underway to prevent a full-scale war.
