The initial 6.4-kilometer stretch will connect the Dubai International Financial Centre to the Dubai Mall.

DUBAI, July 4, 2026 — Construction work has officially commenced on the first phase of ‘The Loop’, Dubai’s ambitious sustainable urban highway project. The initial phase of the mega-project spans 4 miles (6.4 kilometers) and is designed to create a climate-controlled pedestrian and cycling corridor connecting major urban hubs.

Infrastructure development is underway for the highly anticipated Dubai Loop project, with engineering teams breaking ground on the first phase of the corridor. This opening stretch is strategically designed to link two of the city’s most high-profile commercial and retail destinations: the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) and the Dubai Mall.

The 6.4-kilometer initial phase represents the first tangible step toward a broader environmental vision for the emirate. Designed as a zero-emissions transport corridor, the project aims to encourage walking and cycling as primary modes of daily commuting by shielding users from the region’s harsh weather conditions.

According to project specifications, the climate-controlled structure will feature smart infrastructure aimed at sustainability, including kinetic flooring to generate renewable energy and integrated green spaces. Upon completion of its successive phases, the expansive network is planned to wrap around the city, providing a sustainable transport alternative for residents. Authorities have confirmed that current construction schedules focus on minimal disruption to existing traffic flows between DIFC and Downtown Dubai.
