Immigration authorities review 2,267 exceptional requests, prioritizing human dignity alongside regulatory compliance
DUBAI, August 19, 2026:
Dubai’s General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) has approved 1,295 humanitarian cases during the first six months of 2026, accommodating individuals facing complex personal or administrative circumstances while upholding national residency regulations.
The specialized GDRFA Humanitarian Cases Committee evaluated 2,267 individual applications between January and June. Each case underwent a comprehensive assessment to balance legal frameworks with compassionate relief for residents and visitors dealing with unforeseen distress.
The committee reviews requests that fall outside standard administrative channels. Evaluators examine personal hardships, supporting documentation, and the severity of each situation before determining whether to grant exemptions, extend legal coverage, or provide alternative administrative remedies.
“The true value of governmental success cannot be measured solely by the volume of services delivered, but by the tangible impact those services have on human lives,” said Lieutenant General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, Director General of GDRFA Dubai. “Behind every application lies an individual story that deserves to be heard, understood, and addressed with utmost care.”
Al Marri emphasized that handling exceptional cases reflects the emirate’s broader governance philosophy, which seeks to protect human dignity without compromising statutory compliance or transparency.
GDRFA confirmed plans to refine its digital and administrative frameworks to respond faster to urgent humanitarian appeals. The residency authority noted that combining strict legal compliance with flexible humanitarian relief remains a core pillar of Dubai’s public service delivery strategy.
