GDRFA Dubai releases interactive video demonstration showing how easily artificial intelligence mimics government officials and trusted personalities to execute financial fraud.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates : Dubai’s immigration authority has issued an urgent advisory warning residents against emerging artificial intelligence scams, urging the public never to accept online videos, voice clips, or official-looking announcements without verifying their underlying source.

The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai (GDRFA) launched the public awareness drive across its official digital platforms after reports highlighted an increase in fraudulent schemes leveraging synthetic media.

In a dedicated video demonstration, a GDRFA officer demonstrated real-time artificial intelligence manipulation by altering his spoken language, vocal inflection, and visual background. The demonstration was designed to show residents how convincingly generative tools can fabricate high-level official announcements or communications from trusted individuals.

Modern deepfake systems allow bad actors to replicate an individual’s exact vocal cadence and facial likeness, making it appear as though an executive, public official, or family member is speaking from a location they have never visited. Scammers rely heavily on human visual trust: once a target recognizes a familiar face or institutional backdrop, critical scrutiny drops.

According to the directorate, cyber syndicates exploit this manufactured trust to funnel targets toward malicious landing pages, extract banking credentials, and execute unauthorized financial transfers. Some scams feature altered videos of government representatives purportedly announcing new immigration amnesties, visa changes, or investment opportunities, complete with fabricated institutional branding.

The GDRFA stressed that visual or acoustic familiarity must no longer serve as proof of authenticity. Residents encountering official announcements, policy changes, or urgent payment requests are directed to cross-reference the material against confirmed government portals or verified social media channels before clicking links, providing personal information, or sharing the content.

The advisory aligns with broader UAE federal cyber safety initiatives led by the UAE Cybersecurity Council and Dubai Police, which have repeatedly warned against sophisticated phishing campaigns exploiting generative AI tools to bypass conventional identity safeguards.
