Joint multi-agency crackdown intercepts unauthorized disposal of sewage and petrochemical discharges across the emirate
DUBAI, Sept. 25, 2026 : Dubai Police have initiated legal action against 18 people and impounded 17 tankers following a coordinated enforcement campaign targeting the unauthorized disposal of petrochemical waste, sewage, and other hazardous effluents.
The enforcement drive, carried out over the first half of 2026, targeted operators caught discharging untreated industrial and liquid waste in open desert expanses and non-designated municipal sites.
The operation was conducted by the Environmental Crimes Section within the Economic Crimes Department of the General Department of Criminal Investigation, working alongside Dubai Municipality and the Dubai Environment and Climate Change Authority.
Field intelligence and surveillance units traced the suspects after identifying multiple breaches of emirate-wide environmental safety regulations. All 18 individuals were referred to judicial authorities for prosecution, and each vehicle identified in the violations was placed under administrative impoundment.
Under Dubai’s environmental and public hygiene laws, industrial waste, petrochemical residues, and commercial sewage must undergo treatment and be offloaded exclusively at certified facilities. Unregulated disposal poses severe long-term risks to desert ecosystems, soil health, and shallow groundwater reserves, alongside broad public health hazards.
Dubai authorities maintain a zero-tolerance policy against environmental offenses. Municipal legislation establishes stringent penalties for illicit waste dumping, including administrative vehicle impoundment and fines reaching up to Dh100,000 per violation.
Officials credited the interceptions to real-time information exchange and persistent inter-agency inspections across industrial corridors and peripheral areas. Dubai Police reiterated that transport companies, commercial contractors, and tank drivers must adhere strictly to environmental protocols, warning that non-compliance will be met with immediate vehicle confiscation and criminal referral.
