RTA becomes one of the first government entities in the Middle East to secure the BS EN 9223 standard, boosting safety and efficiency across Dubai Metro and Tram networks.
DUBAI, June 11, 2026: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has officially been recognized by the British Standards Institution (BSI) for its successful implementation of BS EN 9223, the international standard for Configuration and Engineering Change Management. This prestigious milestone underscores the RTA’s unwavering commitment to operational excellence, safety, and top-tier quality standards in managing the vital assets of Dubai’s mass transit ecosystem.

The recognition highlights RTA’s adoption of global best practices in systematically controlling, documenting, and managing alterations within its vast engineering systems. By enforcing a highly disciplined approach, the authority ensures flawless safety, conformity, and end-to-end traceability throughout the lifecycle of its transit assets, particularly across complex infrastructure networks like the Dubai Metro and Dubai Tram.
Central to this achievement is an integrated system for engineering change control. The BS EN 9223 standard relies on an advanced governance framework that outlines precise mechanisms for managing engineering system components. Under this framework, all assets, documentation, and software are rigorously identified.
Formal change-control procedures dictate that no modification—regardless of scale—can be executed without a formal request, thorough review, official approval, and a subsequent update of all related technical drawings and data. This watertight process eliminates discrepancies between actual physical configurations and approved digital records.
Achieved through sustained collaboration with its operational partners, this milestone positions the RTA as a regional pioneer, making it one of the first government bodies in the Middle East to earn this BSI distinction. The certification reflects the high maturity level of the RTA’s internal systems and its capability to seamlessly align with evolving international benchmarks. It directly supports the RTA’s overarching strategic vision to remain the world leader in seamless and sustainable mobility.
By managing engineering modifications in a structured, traceable manner, the RTA significantly enhances safety and reliability across its critical rail and mass transit systems. This disciplined operational model reduces systemic risks, ensures uninterrupted transit services, and maximizes the operational lifecycle of Dubai’s multi-billion-dollar transport infrastructure.
