The Government of Dubai Media Office (GDMO) issued a firm statement dismissing claims that blasts occurred in the heart of the emirate on Thursday night. Officials confirmed that the reports were completely baseless and that no security or safety incidents had taken place in Downtown Dubai.
Legal measures will be pursued against any media platform that disseminates inaccurate or unverified news, the Media Office announced on X (formerly Twitter). Authorities emphasized that such enforcement will strictly align with existing local and federal UAE media laws and digital regulations governing public safety and communication.
The official response followed a brief dispatch published by Reuters on Thursday, which cited unidentified witnesses who claimed to have heard loud booms in Downtown Dubai. The report did not specify a cause or provide any factual context regarding the alleged sounds, yet it quickly triggered widespread speculation across digital channels.
Rejecting the report in its entirety, the Dubai Media Office urged journalists, digital publishers, and media networks to exercise professional responsibility. The department reiterated the critical need to cross-check information and depend exclusively on official state channels before broadcasting breaking news concerning public safety.
The UAE maintains stringent federal legal frameworks regarding the publication of false news, misinformation, or rumors that threaten public order or cause unnecessary panic. Under Federal Decree-Law No. 34 of 2021 on Combatting Rumors and Cybercrimes, individuals or institutions found guilty of spreading false information can face severe financial penalties and imprisonment.
Dubai authorities stressed that maintaining the safety, security, and reputation of the emirate remains a top priority, and media entities operating within or covering the region must adhere strictly to established journalistic standards.
