Today, February 4, is World Cancer Day, and health experts are emphasizing the importance of early cancer detection in India. While many cancers can be successfully treated if identified early, doctors warn that people often ignore early warning signs, attributing them to stress, lifestyle issues, infections, or natural ageing.

On this observance, specialists urged the public to pay attention to symptoms that persist for weeks and to seek medical advice promptly. Early detection can help rule out serious conditions and ensure timely treatment. Key warning signs include unexplained weight loss, persistent fatigue, lumps or swellings, unusual bleeding, prolonged cough, difficulty swallowing, changes in bowel habits, non-healing sores, mole or skin changes, and repeated infections or fever.

Doctors stress that post-menopausal bleeding, persistent cough, or rapid weight loss should never be ignored, particularly for individuals exposed to risk factors like smoking or pollution. Awareness and timely evaluation can significantly improve treatment outcomes and save lives.
