Dr Afeena Raheem, 32, had no prior health issues; family prepares for repatriation to Kerala after sudden death in Al Qasimia

SHARJAH, Sept. 16 : A 32-year-old Indian dentist living in Sharjah died on Monday morning after collapsing unexpectedly inside her kitchen, leaving her family searching for answers as local authorities process paperwork for her repatriation to Kerala.

Dr Afeena Raheem was at her family’s flat in the Al Qasimia neighbourhood when the incident occurred. She had temporarily stepped away from clinical practice to care for her two young children, living in the United Arab Emirates alongside her husband, Yasar T, a schoolteacher.

Yasar was teaching his classes when his wife collapsed. His sister, Ramsheena, who shares the apartment, had sent her own child to school earlier that morning and returned to bed. She was awakened shortly after 9 a.m. by the sound of Afeena’s younger child crying in another room.

Upon checking the apartment, Ramsheena discovered Afeena lying unresponsive on the kitchen floor.

Ramsheena performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation while calling emergency medical responders. An ambulance crew rushed Afeena to a nearby private hospital, where doctors were unable to revive her. She was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Family members said Afeena had no documented history of medical complications or chronic illnesses. Hakeem, Afeena’s brother-in-law who traveled from Saudi Arabia to assist the family, said relatives remain uncertain about the exact medical cause behind the sudden collapse.

Sharjah authorities and hospital officials are conducting standard procedural evaluations to determine the formal cause of death.

The family is coordinating with community volunteers and local consular channels to secure the official death notification, police clearance, and medical certificates required to transport Afeena’s body back to Kerala for final rites.
