Kuwait’s armed forces intercepted 13 ballistic missiles and 17 drones early Wednesday after detecting them within the country’s airspace, authorities said, describing the incident as an Iranian attack targeting civilian and vital infrastructure, including Kuwait International Airport.

According to the Kuwaiti Ministry of Defence, air defence systems immediately engaged the incoming threats, successfully intercepting them over several residential areas across the country.

The attack resulted in the death of an Indian resident, injuries to several people, and significant material damage caused by falling debris and the impact of interception operations.

Colonel Saud Al-Atwan said during media briefing No. 46 that missile and drone interceptions occurred over populated areas, leading to debris falling in multiple locations.

Meanwhile, Brigadier Mohammed Al-Gharib said emergency response teams handled nine unusual incidents linked to falling debris from defensive operations.

The reported incidents included four fire outbreaks and five cases requiring site security and precautionary measures, carried out in coordination with relevant government agencies.

Kuwaiti authorities said emergency services, civil defence teams, and security agencies were immediately deployed to affected areas to assess damage, extinguish fires, and ensure public safety.

The incident marks one of the most significant security challenges faced by Kuwait in recent years and comes amid heightened regional tensions and growing concerns over the security of critical infrastructure across the Gulf region.

Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the extent of the material damage or the condition of those injured. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
