DUBAI, August 27, 2026 — Thousands of inter-emirate commuters faced severe travel disruptions Thursday morning as a series of vehicle collisions and localized road closures caused major traffic bottlenecks along the primary arteries connecting Sharjah and Dubai.
Traffic movement slowed to a crawl along Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road (E311) in both directions through Sharjah’s Industrial Areas. Tailbacks stretched into the surrounding arterial network, severely affecting commuters navigating Maliha Road (S102) and University City Road (S116) following an incident near the University of Sharjah roundabout.
The gridlock intensified in Dubai’s border districts, where temporary road closures around the Al Qusais Industrial Area pushed diverted traffic onto Damascus Street and nearby residential grids. On Al Ittihad Road (E11), a collision reported near the Sahara Centre and Al Mamzar compounded existing morning rush hour delays, spilling backward through Al Nahda toward the approaches for Dubai International Airport.
Motorists travelling deeper into Dubai met additional resistance along city-center corridors. Inbound stretches of Sheikh Zayed Road experienced pronounced slowdowns near the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) and Financial Centre interchange. Further south, queues impacted exits for Business Bay, Downtown Dubai, and the junctions servicing Business Bay Metro Station and Burj Khalifa Boulevard.
Traditional pinch points across Bur Dubai were similarly constrained, with notable delays recorded along Kuwait Street through Mankhool, near the Al Mina Street junction, and at intersections surrounding the Dubai Frame and Oud Metha.
