RTA Announces New Traffic Diversions at Al Za’abeel as Trade Centre Roundabout Project Progresses
Rerouting of traffic near the crucial intersection aims to streamline vehicle flow and significantly reduce peak-hour congestion.
DUBAI: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has implemented strategic traffic diversions in the Al Za’abeel area as part of the ongoing AED 696 million World Trade Centre Roundabout Development Project. The new traffic arrangements, which come into effect on Saturday, June 6, 2026, are designed to enhance mobility and maintain a smooth vehicular flow around one of the emirate’s busiest intersections.
Under the newly enforced plan, vehicles travelling from Za’abeel Palace Street toward the Trade Centre Roundabout are being diverted to Al Majlis Street. Additionally, access from the intersection of Za’abeel Palace Street and Al Mustaqbal Street is now restricted exclusively to the ‘One Za’abeel’ development. RTA officials have urged motorists to plan their journeys ahead of time, adhere strictly to the newly installed directional signs, and allocate extra travel time to avoid unexpected delays.
Major Infrastructure Overhaul
The newly introduced diversions at Al Za’abeel represent a crucial phase in the larger Trade Centre Roundabout Development Project, which seeks to transform the traditional roundabout into a highly efficient, signalised at-grade intersection. The comprehensive infrastructure project involves the construction of five major bridges spanning a total of 5,000 metres.
Once fully completed, the massive overhaul is projected to double the intersection’s total capacity. RTA engineering studies indicate that the upgrades will dramatically slash average delay times from 12 minutes down to just 90 seconds. Furthermore, travel time for motorists heading from Sheikh Zayed Road to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street will be reduced from six minutes to a single minute.
Crucial Update for Everyday Commuters
The Al Za’abeel traffic modifications directly impact thousands of daily commuters, including a substantial number of Gulf Malayali expatriates who reside in or travel through surrounding areas like Al Karama, Al Satwa, Al Jafiliya, and Al Mankhool. Because the World Trade Centre region serves as a vital bridge between old and new Dubai, these temporary reroutings are essential to prevent gridlock as heavy machinery and construction crews finalize the surface-level works.
The broader master project serves over half a million residents and visitors daily, providing direct access to premium economic hubs such as the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) and the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC). The RTA continues to leverage advanced traffic management systems to monitor the newly implemented diversions in real-time, ensuring minimal disruption to the city’s vital transport corridors.
