Dubai : Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has commenced its preventive maintenance and rehabilitation works for sidewalks across the emirate, covering a total area of 90,000 square metres as part of its 2026 infrastructure plan.

The initiative underscores RTA’s continued commitment to enhancing sidewalk quality, preserving Dubai’s urban landscape, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of infrastructure assets, while improving overall quality of life for residents and visitors.

In comparison, RTA completed maintenance works across approximately 88,000 square metres of sidewalks in 2025, spanning residential, commercial, tourist, coastal, and economic zones throughout Dubai.

Abdulla Ali Lootah, Director of Roads and Facilities Maintenance at RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, highlighted the importance of sidewalk maintenance as a key component of the authority’s broader infrastructure strategy.

“Sidewalk maintenance is essential to preserving road assets, maintaining high standards of safety and quality, and extending infrastructure lifespan. It also enhances the emirate’s visual appeal while protecting pedestrians and supporting our vision of becoming the world leader in seamless and sustainable mobility,” he said.

Lootah added that RTA is leveraging advanced technologies and global best practices to monitor infrastructure conditions and implement efficient maintenance systems. These efforts aim to strengthen structural integrity, ensure safety, and support Dubai’s ongoing urban growth.

The 2026 maintenance programme will cover several key areas, including Al Nahda 2, Al Baraha, Nad Shamma, Nad Al Hamar, Al Muhaisnah (1, 2, and 3), Al Twar 4, Al Barsha (2 and 3), Umm Suqeim 3, Al Manara, Al Safa 2, Jumeirah 2, Za’abeel 2, and Oud Maitha.

The scope of work includes repairing pedestrian pavements, intersections, and service roads, as well as shared pathways used by pedestrians and cyclists. It also involves fixing damages caused by subsidence, erosion, breakage, and tile loss due to environmental factors or misuse.

RTA confirmed that all necessary safety measures will be in place during the execution of the works to ensure the smooth and safe movement of pedestrians across affected areas.

The project aligns with Dubai’s broader urban development goals and reinforces RTA’s commitment to maintaining world-class infrastructure standards.
