National Centre of Meteorology issues alert for convective cloud formations over eastern and internal areas, with dust storms expected to reduce road visibility.

DUBAI : Unstable summer weather conditions swept across parts of the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday as meteorologists warned of localized rainfall, gusty winds, and soaring temperatures reaching up to 48°C in internal regions.

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) confirmed that convective clouds—typically associated with sudden downpours and atmospheric turbulence—are forming over the eastern mountain ranges. These weather systems are spreading westward into internal areas, bringing afternoon rain showers to exposed regions.

The atmospheric disturbance stems from an extension of a surface low-pressure system originating from the east, reinforced by a upper-air low-pressure trough. While coastal regions and islands can expect maximum temperatures between 37°C and 42°C, inland areas face severe summer heat hovering between 43°C and 48°C. Mountainous districts remain comparatively cooler, with daily peaks ranging from 31°C to 37°C.

Wind speeds are expected to reach up to 45 km/h, particularly across mountain passes and open desert terrain. Forecasters warned that these active to strong winds will kick up blowing dust and sand, significantly reducing horizontal visibility along major highways and rural roads.

Maritime conditions in both the Arabian Gulf and the Oman Sea are anticipated to remain slight, providing stable conditions for offshore activities despite the inland volatility.

Unsettled weather patterns will likely persist through Saturday, according to the NCM. Convective cloud formations are projected to reoccur over eastern and southern territories during the week, bringing recurring chances of convective rain. Temperatures are forecast to rise slightly further from Thursday, with periodic wind spikes continuing to stir up dust in inland zones. Drivers and commuters are advised to exercise caution in areas prone to sudden visibility drops and localized rain.
