Sharjah: Sharjah City Municipality has officially opened the Green Belt Park walkway to the public, featuring a new 1.8-kilometre rubber running track designed for walking and jogging in a landscaped recreational environment.
The facility began welcoming visitors on Monday following the completion of construction and final finishing works. The project aims to promote healthy lifestyles by providing residents and visitors with a safe and comfortable outdoor recreational space.
According to the municipality, the running track was constructed around the perimeter of the park using specially designed rubber materials that meet internationally approved safety and durability standards.
The development also includes environmentally friendly lighting systems, landscaped green spaces, and seating areas to improve visitor comfort and enhance the overall recreational experience.
Engineer Hassan Abdul Razzaq, Director of the Projects and Facilities Maintenance Department at Sharjah Municipality, said the walkway was implemented “according to the best international specifications” and in line with approved technical standards.
He explained that the infrastructure was carefully engineered to provide high levels of safety and comfort for users, adding that the project reflects the municipality’s focus on quality and sustainability in public facilities.
The municipality stated that eco-friendly lighting poles have been installed throughout the walkway to provide clear visibility during evening hours, while greenery surrounding the track has been designed to create a calm and relaxing atmosphere for visitors.
Officials said the project forms part of a wider package of recreational and infrastructure developments being implemented across Sharjah to improve public services and support the emirate’s urban, tourism, and population growth.
Sharjah Municipality added that it continues to prioritise public recreational spaces through annual development plans aimed at encouraging physical activity, strengthening community interaction, and improving quality of life across the emirate.
