Casualties include foreign residents and Saudi nationals; emergency teams respond as authorities assess structural damage across both hubs.

RIYADH — Three people have died and 36 others suffered injuries following separate attacks on Abha International Airport and King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) announced.

The incidents unfolded across consecutive days, prompting airport emergency services and security forces to deploy immediate containment protocols, GACA said in a formal briefing carried by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The first strike hit Abha International Airport in the Kingdom’s southwestern Asir province on Tuesday. Two expatriate women—one Moroccan and one Algerian—were killed at the scene. Another 28 individuals sustained injuries ranging from minor to critical. Among those hurt were Saudi citizens and foreign workers, including Bangladeshi and Filipino nationals.

A second assault targeted King Khalid International Airport in the capital, Riyadh, on Wednesday. That incident claimed the life of a Sudanese resident and left eight others injured. GACA identified the wounded in Riyadh as five Saudi citizens, two Egyptian expatriates, and a Pakistani resident.

All 36 injured civilians were evacuated to regional medical facilities for emergency care.

Beyond human casualties, both facilities recorded physical damage. Aviation regulators and technical teams have begun structural inspections to gauge operational impacts and secure terminal infrastructure.

“GACA is working, in coordination with the relevant authorities, to assess the damage, verify the safety of the facilities, and take the necessary measures to ensure the safety of passengers and maintain the security and safety of operations within the Kingdom’s civil aviation system,” the authority said.

Security sweeps and safety audits across civil aviation sites remain active as authorities review perimeter defenses and terminal integrity.
