Government and private sector employees across the Emirates will enjoy a paid holiday to mark the occasion.

ABU DHABI, August 7, 2026:Federal and private sector employees in the United Arab Emirates will receive an official paid holiday on Friday, August 28, to mark the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (Milad Un-Nabi).

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) alongside federal authorities confirmed the public holiday schedule for both public and private enterprise workforces across the seven emirates. Combined with the standard Saturday-Sunday weekend, workers operating on a traditional five-day schedule will benefit from a three-day extended weekend.

The announcement aligns with the UAE Cabinet’s unified public and private sector holiday calendar, established to streamline time-off allowances across both employment domains.

Federal entities and private firms will resume full regular operations on Monday, August 31. Public services, essential services, and emergency teams will maintain standard rotation schedules to ensure continuous operations during the holiday window.

Prophet Muhammad’s birthday, traditionally observed on the 12th day of the Islamic month of Rabi’ Al-Awwal, is commemorated quietly across the UAE with religious lectures, cultural reflections, and family gatherings.
