Emirates terms the strike a flagrant violation of UN resolutions and warns against using vital maritime corridors for economic blackmail.

ABU DHABI — The United Arab Emirates has strongly condemned a terrorist attack targeting an Indian-flagged commercial vessel off the coast of Oman. Terming the incident a “grave escalation,” the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned that the strike poses a direct threat to international maritime navigation, regional stability, and global energy security.

In an official statement, the ministry expressed the UAE’s absolute solidarity with India. The Emirates affirmed its full support for all measures taken by New Delhi to protect the security and safety of Indian vessels and safeguard its maritime interests in the region.

Violation of UN Maritime Resolutions

According to the UAE foreign ministry, the attack constitutes a flagrant violation of UN Security Council Resolution 2817. The resolution explicitly guarantees the freedom of maritime navigation and strictly rejects the targeting of commercial vessels or any disruption to international shipping lanes.

The UAE underscored that targeting commercial shipping—and attempting to use strategic choke points like the Strait of Hormuz as a tool for political pressure or economic blackmail—amounts to acts of piracy.

“The attack represents a grave escalation aimed at undermining the stability of vital maritime corridors and jeopardising the safety of global shipping routes,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.

Threats to Regional and Energy Security

The waters off the coast of Oman and the nearby Strait of Hormuz serve as the primary transit routes for global oil and gas shipments. Security analysts note that any instability in these corridors ripples across global markets. By condemning the act in the strongest terms, the UAE has reiterated the collective responsibility of regional powers to ensure that commercial lanes remain unhindered by geopolitical friction.

The Indian government has been actively enhancing its maritime surveillance and security presence in the Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean regions following a rise in drone and missile threats to commercial shipping over recent months. This latest gesture of solidarity from Abu Dhabi highlights the strengthening strategic and security alliance between India and the UAE.
