Speaking at the UN Human Rights Council, the UAE condemned ongoing violations by warring factions and called for an unhindered humanitarian truce.

GENEVA, July 3, 2026 – The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has called for an immediate, unconditional ceasefire in Sudan and an urgent expansion of the United Nations arms embargo to encompass the entire country. Addressing an urgent session of the UN Human Rights Council regarding the escalating conflict in El Obeid, the UAE reiterated that there is no military solution to the ongoing civil war.

The UAE issued a strong condemnation of international law violations committed by the warring factions in Sudan. In an official statement delivered before the Human Rights Council, the nation highlighted the intensifying violence in and around El Obeid as a critical warning sign, urging both sides to halt the targeting of civilians and essential civilian infrastructure.

To curb the hostilities effectively, the UAE advocated for extending the current UN arms embargo to cover all regions of Sudan. The statement emphasized that restricting the flow of weapons is a necessary step to protect innocent civilians and ensure the safe, unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to all affected communities.

As an active member of the Sudan Quad, the UAE explicitly welcomed the outcomes of the Berlin Conference, noting that the forum provided vital space for Sudanese civilians to engage in dialogue. The nation also expressed support for the ongoing diplomatic efforts of the Quintet aimed at advancing a civilian-led political track.

Concluding its statement, the UAE urged the international community to remain focused on establishing a comprehensive, civilian-led political process. It stressed that the future transition must remain independent of both warring military factions and extremist groups to truly reflect the democratic aspirations of the Sudanese people.
