Landmark Resolution Aims to Build Evidence-Based Record for Justice and Accountability
ABU DHABI – In a significant move toward reinforcing international law and national sovereignty, the United Arab Emirates has officially announced the formation of a high-level national committee dedicated to documenting acts of aggression, international crimes, and resulting damages.
The initiative, established under Resolution No. (4) of 2026, was issued by His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court. The committee is tasked with creating a comprehensive and secure evidentiary record of Iranian acts of aggression and international crimes that have impacted the UAE’s territory, its citizens, residents, and visitors.
A Multidisciplinary Approach to Accountability
Chaired by the UAE Attorney General, the committee represents a unified institutional front. It integrates expertise from across the federal and local spectrum, including judicial, security, technical, and economic authorities. This collaborative structure is designed to ensure that every recorded incident is scrutinized through multiple professional lenses, guaranteeing the highest levels of accuracy.
Under the new resolution, the committee is authorized to engage both national and international experts to ensure that all documentation aligns with the UAE Constitution and internationally recognized legal standards for reporting war crimes and violations of international law.
Precise Mandates and Evidence Collection
The committee’s scope is exhaustive, covering the monitoring and verification of military actions and attacks. Key responsibilities include:
- Verifying Incidents: Detailed analysis of the nature, timing, and circumstances of each act of aggression.
- Damage Assessment: Utilizing approved technical methodologies to quantify human, material, and economic losses.
- Forensic Documentation: Collecting medical, engineering, and forensic reports while maintaining a strict “chain of custody” to ensure evidence remains admissible in international legal forums.
Advanced Technical Safeguards
To support these efforts, a dedicated Technical Secretariat will be established. This body is responsible for managing a secure, centralized database. Utilizing cutting-edge technology, the system will prevent data tampering, track all access logs, and maintain encrypted backups. This “digital vault” ensures that both physical and digital evidence are preserved against loss or manipulation, providing a foundation for future legal proceedings.
