Drivers can register online from August 17 to clear four black points from their driving licences by committing to road safety rules on August 31.

ABU DHABI — UAE motorists can clear up to four black points from their driving records by participating in the nation’s annual “Day Without Accidents” road safety campaign, federal authorities announced.

Organized by the Federal Traffic Council in coordination with the Ministry of Interior and police departments across all seven emirates, the initiative coincides with the start of the new academic school year on August 31. Registration for the campaign opened on August 17, 2026.

To qualify for the penalty deduction, drivers must sign an online pledge committing to fundamental traffic rules and complete the entire day of August 31 without committing any traffic violations or causing accidents.

The campaign specifically targets peak traffic conditions as thousands of students return to school, prompting authorities to urge drivers to strictly follow speed limits, yield to pedestrians, refrain from mobile phone use, and grant priority to school buses and emergency vehicles.

Motorists can register by scanning the official QR code available on the Ministry of Interior’s social media channels (@MOIUAE) and authenticating their identity using UAE Pass. Upon submitting the pledge to adhere to safe driving practices, participants receive a digital certificate of participation via email.

In the UAE traffic system, black points are cumulative penalties assigned to a driver’s record alongside monetary fines for specific traffic offenses. Accumulating 24 black points leads to severe legal penalties, including driver’s licence suspension or confiscation by judicial authorities. Major infractions that carry four black points include using a handheld mobile phone while driving, sudden swerving, failing to wear a seatbelt, and driving with an expired vehicle registration.

Authorities emphasized that while the four-point deduction serves as an immediate incentive, the broader objective is to cultivate permanent safe driving habits across the country.
